Upcoming Immigration Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Seminars

18Every day at the Clinic, we encounter new clients who are seeking refuge in our country. Though their reasons for leaving their homeland may vary, they are often in need of legal services. As a legal services agency, we are committed to assisting these individuals, but oftentimes the need is greater than the resources that are available. That is why we’re asking other attorneys to equip themselves with vital information regarding Immigration Law and to consider taking on a volunteer case with the Legal Clinic.

Below are a few upcoming CLEs that can help prepare you to assist some of those people in our community who are desperately seeking immigration relief:

CLE #1

Title: “Representing Unaccompanied Minors in Immigration Proceedings”
When: Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (1-hour CLE credit)
Where: IndyBar Education Center

What: This Indianapolis Bar Association CLE will explore the history of legislation that creates immigration relief for unaccompanied minors as well as the various forms of relief available to the youth. Topics include Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, asylum, and T and U visas.

Title: “Immigration Services for victims of Domestic Violence and Other Qualifying Crimes: The U Visa”
When: Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (2-hour CLE credit)

What: This CLE will be presented in partnership with Ice Miller LLP by the Legal Clinic’s Victim Justice Program staff attorney Aimee Heitz and is beneficial to anyone interested in learning about immigration relief available to victims of domestic violence and other qualifying crimes. Participants do not need to have any previous immigration experience to participate in this seminar.

When: Friday, June 12, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM (2-hour CLE credit)

What: This CLE will be presented in partnership with Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Presenter Sarah Moshe from Lewis & Kappes will cover the process of preparing and filing an application for asylum-seekers who are not in Immigration Removal Proceedings.
